PASKO SA AMING BAYAN
Annual Filipino-American Christmas Festival
Celebrates 15 Year Anniversary
The Philippines is known as the “land of the fiestas” especially during Christmas time. Pilipinos are known to have the longest and happiest Christmas celebration in the world.
This year, Kappa Psi Epsilon and CSULB’s Pilipino American Coalition invite you to celebrate the Holidays at PASKO SA AMING BAYAN on December 3rd. This year marks the 15 year anniversary for the annual event.
Jeanne Estrella was a student at CSULB when she organized the first ChristmasFest in 1997. She notes, “we wanted to throw an event that filled what seemed to be a gap in the current college Filipino-American network”. The goal was to connect the young adults to a culture that connected to all generations, “We wanted to bridge modern Fil-Am culture with the traditions of Pasko (“Christmas”): a through tales of the motherland: entertainment, food, story-telling, crafts, parol-making and more.”
Fifteen years later, ChristmasFest has connected Filipino American communities from all over Los Angeles and Orange County; from campus cultural groups to non-profit service organizations to dance crews and visual artists. Open to families with young children, teens/ young adults, aunties/uncles and grandparents; Christmas fest is the place to celebrate this joyous time of the year and bring the Pilipino Christmas Fiesta to our own backyard.
This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 on the HHS lawn at Cal State Long Beach. Community organizations like Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M) and Anakbayan LA will be participating, As well as delicious food trucks like Mighty Boba and Tapa Boy. Entertainment will be on stage throughout the whole day with performances from Mini Shock LA, Sampaguita Dance Troupe, Krystle Tugadi and much more. An art exhibit and a “Kids Korner” will be set up to entertain families and kids of all ages. So whether you are far away from home or you are surrounded by family, come to the FREE Pilipino Christmas Festival and eat delicious food, watch fun performances, and enjoy some good company with the community. Christmas is coming to town! Don’t miss out.
